most places will start ou out on some kind of pill, but they should discuss what options you have for birth control and the pro's and con's of each kind. And yes, the birth control you receive will help prevent a pregnancy should you have unprotected sex. BUT remember, birth control will NOT protect you from STD's such as genital herpes and HIV so it's important your partner uses a condom EVERY time you have sex! Good luck!

If you want anything other than condoms, they will require not only an appointment but a full pelvic exam. They may suggest you go ahead and get routine std screens, too. I say do it! The nurses in college are the best! The women's health centers there tend to be very oriented in empowering the female to make healthy choices and they will not make you feel dirty or bad for being sexually active. Plus they are inexpensive or free, and your mom and dad have NO access to finding out any info on you through them. Go 4 it!

a company did the same thing to my mom, and she just politely (but firmly) told them to stop bothering her, and, they did. (she was being called about 2-3 times a day for like 4-5 months)

I would search for the best surgeon versus the best hospital. Usually hospitals are ranked for overall scores like patient satisfaction for room cleanliness. Or, to make rankings like US News Top 100 Hospitals, you need to be a researching or teaching hospital.

I didn't have health insurance when I had my son, I went with my states health care. I had a OB/GYN from the get go, I never seen my Gynecologist until my 6 week check up after my son was born. At the first appointment they usually do a pap smear, height, weight, measure you for a start up size in inches, and if you are far enough along they will let you hear your baby's heartbeat. It will take your breath away. I cried. I hope this helped you out. But seriously check with your state's health care program for mothers and also sign up for WIC. If you dont listen to ANYTHING I HAVE SAID PLEASE DO THAT ONE THING. They provide you with nutritious food during your pregnancy and after and also you baby's formula when he/she is born. Congratulations!!!
